How To Find Pinterest Keywords That Receive 5-Million Plus Monthly Searches?
Ever wondered why pins go viral?
What factors do Pinterest consider for showing a pin to an audience?
In this guide, we will show you two really powerful methods to discover high-potential keywords on Pinterest.
Keywords are one of the most important factors Pinterest looks for while showing pins to an audience. Thus, carefully planning and adding keywords to your pin title and pin description can positively impact your results.
When it comes to search engines like Google, ranking at the top of the search results is remarkably hard. Even established bloggers find it hard to rank on the first page of Google.
And even if you manage to get your posts ranked somewhere on the 5th or 10th page, how many people actually scroll onto those pages?
Hardly anyone right!
But Pinterest is different. Pinterest is extremely beginner-friendly. Even as a completely new blogger, it’s much easier to get your pins to feature on top of search results.
What Is A Keyword? And Why Is Keyword Planning Important For Ranking On Search Results?
Keywords are the words and phrases that people search for the most. They make it easier for the search engines to find your content.
When someone searches for a keyword, Pinterest, in turn, searches for all the pins (they search the pin title, pin description, pin images, etc.) that are related to the keyword and then show it to the audience.
If your pin title and pin description have the keyword in them, then it becomes much easier for Pinterest to identify your pins and show them.
For example, when someone searches for “Keto diet”, if your pin is titled as “The ultimate guide to keto diet” and the pin description contains the word “Keto diet” three or four times, it makes it very easy for Pinterest to identify your pins and show it to the person who searched for “Keto diet.”
This is why keyword planning is crucial for your success. Having a keyword-rich pin highly improves your chances of showing on top of Pinterest search results.
Now that you know how important keyword planning is, think of how important identifying and using the most searched keywords are.
Using such keywords (the most searched keywords and the keywords with the most audience) could significantly boost your results.
Let us now see two methods for identifying such high-potential keywords.
Identifying Keywords Through Pinterest Search
Pinterest search is a powerful tool for identifying popular keywords. On the top header, you will find a search icon like in the image below.
Click on the search icon and a search window will open up like in the image below.
Enter the basic keyword you are looking for. For example, if you want the top keywords related to cooking, enter “cooking” in the search bar and you will see the most popular keyword suggestions shown directly by Pinterest.
Cooking recipes, cooking, cooking aesthetic, etc., are the most popular keywords that Pinterest is suggesting to it’s audience. Adding these keywords in your pins could vastly improve your results.
This is also the most popular keyword research method used by Pinterest bloggers and marketers.
But there is another highly effective strategy to identify Pinterest keywords that are most searched and cater to the most audience.
Let’s see that now.
Identifying Keywords Through Pinterest Ad Campaign
If the word “Ad Campaign” has got you thinking if this is a paid method, then no, this is an absolutely free method to identify the most searched Pinterest keywords.
Let’s see how!
Note: This method requires a Pinterest Business Account. If you do not have a business account, you can either convert your personal account to a business account or click here to start a new one (It’s free as Pinterest is a completely free platform)
The first step is to create a Pinterest campaign. You can click on the “Ads” section on the top bar and choose “Create Ad” under it.
If you cannot find an “Ad” tab in your profile, click on the “Analytics” tab and then open the “Audience Insights” portal. You can see them in the image below.
On the “Audience Insights” page, click on the “Create Campaign” option as shown in the image below.
You will now be taken to the campaign page.
Choosing The Campaign Objective:
The first step is to choose a campaign objective. There will be four options available: Brand awareness, Consideration (or traffic), Conversion, and Video views.
If you are a blogger looking to drive more traffic to your website, you should choose “Consideration (formerly traffic)” from the given options.
You can also decide to choose any of the options depending on your objective.
You can skip all other options on the first page, that is, the “Campaign name & status” as well as the “Campaign budget” option.
Click on the “Continue” option at the end of the page and you will now be taken to the most important page for this keyword identification strategy.
How To Choose The Targeting Details?
The next page is about selecting the targeting details. The first step here is to choose the targeting strategy.
If you are looking to reach out to a new audience and increase your traffic, select the “Find new customers” option.
Once you select it, scroll down and go directly to “Keywords & Interests“. This is the only section we will be needing now. You do not have to choose any other option on the second page.
You will see a drop-down icon on the “Keywords & Interests” section. Click on the drop-down option.
Once the drop-down opens, you will see two sections: “Add interests” and “Add keywords“. You have to choose “Add keywords“.
Type the basic keyword you want to analyze on the search box. For example, let us search for keywords related to “Travel” and see the results we get.
You can now see the top keywords related to “travel” as well as the number of monthly searches for those keywords.
Note: 5 million is the maximum value that will be shown. Even if it’s just 1 search more than 5 million or 50 million searches, we will see the results only as 5m+.
If you still want to identify which among these keywords having 5 million-plus monthly searches are better, there is another method for it.
Click on the “+” like add icon next to the keyword as shown in the below image.
Once you click on the add option, the keyword will now be shown on the left text box. You will now be able to see the potential monthly audience size on the right side as can be seen from the image below.
You can now compare the “Monthly searches” with “Potential audience size” to identify the high-potential keywords.
Even though many keywords have 5m+ monthly searches, the potential monthly audience size will be considerably different for each of these keywords.
Amazing right!
With this strategy, we can find the most searched keywords with the biggest audience size all at the same time.
Using Keywords The Right Way On Pinterest
Using the keywords the right way is as important as identifying the most searched keyword. While adding keywords, keep the following points in mind:
- Add them in the Pin title.
- Add them 2-4 times in the pin description. Do not keyword stuff in the description.
For example, in the case of the keyword “travel” above, you should write a description like: “Looking to travel this summer? Check out our travel guide for inspirational travel tips, travel quotes, and packing ideas. Learn how to travel the world while holding a full-time job by getting our ultimate travel guide for this summer.”
In the above description, we have used the main keyword “travel” four times, and we also managed to add three other highly searched keywords: travel tips, travel quotes, and packing. But most importantly, we have written a cohesive and meaningful description that makes sense to the readers.
People sometimes write descriptions like “Travel | Travel Tips | Travel Quotes | Packing.”
This is not a good idea, especially for pin description. Because your pin viewers first read the pin description before deciding to visit your site. With a meaningful sentence, you are influencing the pin viewer to click through to your website or blog.
Simply stuffing keywords could only irritate your pin viewers. Thus, even if you can get your pin shown in front of viewers through keyword stuffing, your click-through rate will be significantly lower.
As bloggers and marketers, our main aim is to increase website traffic and not get more impressions. It’s best practice to write a meaningful pin description that states your main keyword multiple times (but make sure not to overdo it as well).
- Try to write all 100 characters in the pin title and 500 characters in the pin description.
By making full use of the character limit, you will be able to add more keywords. Once again, make sure that you are not keyword stuffing.
It’s a good practice, and by doing this, you are essentially maximizing your chances of being favored by Pinterest.
With that, we have come to the end of this post. To summarize, we learned two ways to identify high-potential keywords in Pinterest:
- Through Pinterest search
- By creating a Pinterest campaign
